This why we don't plan. Something happens or we just decide to do something different.
Jeff's truck losing power steering is the issue. We started towards Jackson and then called the Ford Dealership there. No service appointments until July 2. Called a Cody dealership and they could take us that afternoon. So....Jeff whipped this coach around and we took a detour to Cody (which means no Grand Tetons (yet!).
This is what officially breaks me. I don't do change well and although I LOVE a good plan, I didn't marry a planner. (I've adjusted decently well throughout our marriage!!!) HOWEVER...This trip has been ALL planned for the major parts. And now we have to modify. Yes, I know it's a minor setback but it's Day 3 and seems like so much so my anxiety kicks in. Cue the tears.
Fun side story with the tears: pulled off at another dealership on the way to Cody for funsies and I start tearing up. I tell my sweet, lovable boys that I needed a hug. Bennett looked at me like I had a contagious disease, came up to me like I needed to hug him, and at least gave me a laugh. Riley made me repeat myself a few times before he headed my way with open arms. Sheesh. Where are those boys who gave the BEST hugs as 3 year olds? I miss those hugs.
On the way to Cody we drove alongside a beautiful river. Too beautiful to pass up for a pit stop/lunch. Of course all 3 boys climbed down to the river while I stayed above and took pics. We really needed this picturesque adventure after driving straight for 2 days because all 4 of us were sad we weren't hitting the Tetons today.
Who's parents told them to "Look at the rocks!" as they were on a road trip. I know it wasn't just mine. Well we got to drive through some rocks that were from the Cambrian, Triassic, and one other period. Signs on the highways pointed it out but I was never ready for a pic (see blurry example below)! I've never seen anywhere it was labeled like this so it made my moment!
The Cody Ford dealership quickly got us in and got Jeff a shuttle to the airport to pick up a rental car for the week. While waiting for him to get back I randomly checked out the Yellowstone lodging website and it has 5 nights at a campground!!! (We had reservations already for 3 nights at one of the hotels in the park but only because when we booked in November 2024, that's all we could get. I called to see if we would fit and it was a win! So instead of boondocking in the Tetons for 2 nights and a Yellowstone hotel for 3, we now had 5 nights in a campground! It's was still no water, sewer, or power so we're still boondocking, but we're glad to be in one spot!
As soon as we got set up and had dinner (thanks to some pre-frozen taco meat I'd prepped), we explored the lake area around our site. Y'all. Yellowstone Lake is SO beautiful! We drove beside it for half of our drive getting into the park. We were so happy we got to be near-ish it while staying! I mean, look at this glassy reflection. Absolutely beautiful! Even the boys were amazed! Of course there was a little exploring and selfie taking (note what's in the background of my pic with B).
We got pretty fortunate to have this camping spot as our starting point and pray everything goes well while we're here!
Prayers for: continued safe travels and hiking; my anxiety to decrease as we get used to traveling like this (I think part of my anxiety is because this motorcoach is still so new and we're still learning how to travel in it. We had everything in the old trailer figured out!!), happy moments to etch themselves into all of our minds!
