I have been at home this week doing wedding planning "stuff" with mom and dad. It has been a lot of fun and hopefully we got a really good start on things. I plan on having most stuff planned/booked by the time I go back to school in August. I just don't want to mess with small things while we both start back to school. So...here's my list of why I love going home to Cuero.
1. It's Cuero--everyone knows me and you wave to people even if you don't know them (that's a small town thing that should move up to the big city--happy people needed here!)
2. I sleep better in my old bed than in any fluffy hotel bed--and I can completely ignore the volume on the TV (due to Dad), dogs, questions, etc.
3. No matter what...when I get in bed to read, mom and/or dad will come in, sit on the bed, and talk.
4. BBQ Station--enough said (especially for those of you who have eaten there!)
5. Working out at the Wellness Center--here again...everyone knows who you are and they love to ask you how your life is--like it's the most important thing they've heard all day! Plus...it's not 24 Hour Fitness which means there aren't as many machines, but people do re-rack their weights and the sauna is clean. What more can you ask for?
6. Animals: many of you have heard the hog and armadillo stories for years, and this is the year of the hog at the Blackwell house. In late April/early May hogs completely tore up my parent's front yard, so now they have an electric fence going all around the yard. This fence gets turned on at night and even stretches across the driveway--that's how serious they are about this! Last night I had to take some of mom's "clean-out" pile to the dumpster that dad had already set out and all I heard as I was walking to the front door was "No!!! The hot wire's on! The hot wire's on!!" After that fiasco, I learned how to step over wires (must be that gymnastic training I had in 2nd grade), and all was well. But...you just never know what you'll get at our house!
Most people don't like small towns--but I think they're missing out. Don't get me wrong...I love the conveniences of everything here in Katy, but there's just something about going home that is the greatest!

Steph - I feel the Cuero love. There's nothing better than BBQ Station and hanging out at the Blackwell home. Is it time for Turkeyfest yet?
Shiner TX will ALWAYS be home for me!! I definitely feel your sentiments Steph. Every trip home is an adventure and a reminder of what is all-good in the world.
I would never EVER EVER change the fact that I grew up in a small town! No way.
