Flying 101

Yes, I know. I AM NOT the one who should be writing this seeing as how I’m a nervous flyer. But, the start to our adventure began with a flight to San Diego from Houston to go see Daddy for Thanksgiving.

1.       Book flight—Preferably book one NOT departing at 9:37pm. And when that doesn’t work, make sure your children (and you) DO NOT wake up at 5:30am because you’re so excited for the trip!
2.       Pack early—send a suitcase with your husband when he goes back to CA the week before---BUT make sure you take a picture of what you packed!  There’s nothing like needing your tennis shoes and not having them because they were in CA—and you were not!
3.       Prepare the flight entertainment—AKA charge the tablets, find the headphones, and make sure APPs are still useful.  Also…snacks. Enough said.
4.       Pack all the backpacks.  In our case, this also entailed a box of toys for taking to Daddy’s because there were none currently there and momma wasn’t having nothing to play with for a week!  However, this also meant the boys’ backpacks were pretty heavy.  Although there’s nothing cuter than a kid with a backpack, it wasn’t fun when they were tired.
5.       Get to the airport on time. In our case, we got there 3 hours early.  Crazy, but it actually worked for us. We got through security (which was one reason I went so early) and then had time to eat dinner, play on tablets, look around, take plenty of bathroom breaks, hop up the ramps to get out some energy, etc.
6.       PRAY—for a safe flight. For sleeping children. For nice people around us. For no turbulence. Etc.
Excitement before taking off!
7.       Sing your children to sleep when they just couldn’t do it any longer!  Poor Bennett was so excited for the flight, and then about a minute after take-off he had momma’s nerves and decided he wanted to go back and land immediately. Oh kid….we have the flight back to Houston…get ready!
Thank goodness for pillows and blankets!
8.       Call daddy and excitedly tell him you’re here and ready to see him---or pass out in the car since it was 1am Texas time!

All in all, our first flight as the 3 Musketeers went fairly well. Luckily the bad turbulence hit when B was asleep and Ry wasn’t really paying attention (guess he’s like his daddy when he flies)!

Excited to have landed and get to see daddy--even if it was 1am our time!
