Finding a New School...

Trying to find a school for the boys in El Centro is different than finding one in the greater Houston area. Quality and quantity are both a concern. I told Jeff when this move became an option that I would NEVER put my children in a public school in CA. I've changed my mind a lot as a parent with the things I've said I'd never do, but I'm not backing down on this one.  Now that I'm doing private tutoring for dyslexia I see how much a good option for your child is. It is completely different than being a teacher in the public school system and it's eye-opening in more ways that one (but that's an entirely different topic!).

I researched all I could online, but there was not much to find. I got the typical information on "GreatSchools.com"--not so helpful. Facebook pages helped a little once I Googled that church name, which is a great thing about social media!  It was going to take an actual "field research" expedition to find the perfect fit for our boys and our family. Our Thanksgiving trip to visit Jeff was going to be the only time to do this.

Since the boys are at a church school now that we LOVE, we decided to focus in that specific direction, which did help our search.  However, my momma heart was confused/tired/ etc. because everything in El Centro looks completely different than, oh, EVERYTHING that I'm used to! On the main day I drove around looking with the boys, I didn't actually have the balls to get out of the car and go into the schools because my mind was shattered with appearances on the outside!

The second day that we drove around, I stopped in at a new one I'd found the night before online. The school was closed, but the church office was open and we were welcomed in 😊 and upon telling our story, I of course began to cry. And...in walks the preacher!  I'm SO talented at making great first impressions!  Anyway...they offered to take us to see 2 classes--a Pre-K and a Kindergarten class. They boys loved both classrooms and hated to leave. That made this momma happy. The plus to this school?  The church associated with it has Royal Rangers, which Jeff has wanted to do with the boys as soon as they were old enough!

We have a few more options to look at when we officially move at the end of December, but we are so happy that this school/church seems to be a positive option!
