Prepping for Alaska

Picture it. Sicily Bridge City, TX - 2006.

A boy and a girl meet at a wedding (a set-up that the girl knew about, but the boy didn't....). They realize they get along pretty well and start dating (Spoiler alert - they get married, have kids, move a LOT, and LOVE to travel).

During this time of dating, the boy (Jeff) tells the girl (Steph) all about a trip to Alaska he took in the summer of 2005. He continues to mention this trip about a million times during the next 19 years of their lives together. Their boys become amazing travelers, and this "Alaska trip" becomes talked about more often.  In 2016 a cruise is booked for 2018 to the Inside Passage of Alaska. Everyone is excited. A move to California happens - and then a move BACK to Texas (thank goodness!) during 2018 and guess what happens? You guessed it - the cruise gets cancelled since they buy a house. The "Alaska Trip" continues to get tossed around.

Summer 2023, Stephanie realizes that junior high sports will be starting soon for the boys. This means high school sports are around the corner from that and time for big family trips is winding down. Jeff gets informed that the "Alaska Trip" can take place no later than summer 2025.

Spring 2024 - the search for a motorcoach begins. I (Steph) have wanted to sell the 5th wheel toy hauler since moving back to TX in 2018, but kept losing that battle. Now that it's time to start planning, we spend a day looking at new / used 5th wheels with different floorplans when the master of all non-existent planning (Riley) informs us that he's found a motorcoach that is too fancy to pass up a look! That's all it took for all 4 of us to decide we needed to change our thoughts toward a motorcoach and a new fascination began. (The boys have wanted a motorcoach for YEARS. This is just when mom and dad were finally convinced!) We found a floorplan / brand we loved and started the search for a used one.

August 2024 - we looked at a used motorcoach and decided we'd rather have new. The used one had issues (they all have issues) and we figured we'd rather deal with our own new issues if we're taking this puppy all the way to Alaska! The problem??? No one in South Texas sold the brand / style of motorcoach we were looking for. Now we had to find time to travel to find one.

December 2024 - we took a ski trip to New Mexico and realized it was the perfect time to visit north Texas dealerships since many carried brands / styles we liked. This would save us travel time and we liked that idea! We ended up finding a coach that was NOT at all like what we thought we wanted and the major planning could now begin!
