Hotel Living 101

Note:  I saw this "Draft" today (Tuesday, March 29, 2016).  I published it b/c it seems pretty legit and I don't have a clue what else needs to be added.  I can't remember yesterday, much less 2.5 years ago!  With that said, I introduce to you "Hotel Living 101".

You know, I can't say that living in a hotel has been hard.  It hasn't been peachy at all times, but it does have its perks.  No one wrote a manual on how to live in a hotel for almost 2 months with 2 kids: a  2 year old and an 8 month old (who turned 7 months old right after we moved in.....time flies!)

There are a lot of things we did right.  We planned for things we'd need while at the hotel--the basics.  Clothing, bed stuff for the boys, toys, baby stuff, bathroom stuff, etc.  Most of it got here, but the day we closed on our house/finished packing/moved into a hotel A LOT of stuff got put places that we still are unsure of.  Like my tennis shoes.  And my tablet.  And...all the pantry food that I'd planned on bringing so we could use it up and not have to buy it!

This post is dedicated to what you definitely need in order to live in a hotel for over a month--with 2 kids...at least in my opinion!

What We DID Prepare For:

  1. Boxes for organization.  I bought 3 large and 3 medium plastic drawers for storage.  BEST.  PURCHASE.  EVER.  Large = Bennett's clothes, Riley's clothes, toys.  Small = Bennett's pjs, Riley's pjs, baby food/medicine stuff.
  2. Laundry baskets.  Self explanatory.
  3. Pack-N-Play.  Again, self-explanatory.  However, our plan to have the baby in the only PNP that we had didn't work out.  Pretty much because the big kid didn't appreciate us giving him the king size bed and wanted to be in a PNP himself.  So...after naptime on Day 2 of hotel living where Bennett took over the PNP and I had to strap Riley into his carseat for a nap, we headed right on across the street to Wal-Mart and purchased another one of those puppies!  WORTH.  EVERY.  PENNY.

What We DIDN'T Prepare For:
Other than being in this hotel room for over a month....
  1. Kids getting sick.  We packed the infant fever reducer/allergy combo stuff, but no thermometer!
  2. Adults getting sick.  We're invincible, right?  Umm...nope!  Within a week of moving up to Conroe, we all had some sort of allergy issue. We've had to buy everything we needed since we didn't plan for anything with us!
  3. Computer being lost in a box.  In a POD.  Somewhere in the city of Houston.  Until we closed on the house and then the POD was just in our driveway...but the location of the box with the tablet is still unknown!  (luckily, I married a great gadget guy who hoards all computer things and he was able to scrounge up everything except a mouse in order for me to be able to work on school stuff from home!  Mine, all mine ladies!!!)
  4. How sick we really would get of eating out.  Our hotel has a muffin/juice breakfast every morning and Monday through Thursday they have appetizer stuff from local places.  We do eat a lot of breakfasts in our room, lunch we have started doing prepared salads A La Wal-Mart, but the dinners Mon-Thurs are always whatever is provided (except the Sweet Tomato salad night since Bennett won't eat that!).  We've saved a lot of $ by eating here and not out all the time, but to be honest, I really would like a home-cooked meal!  I've found myself fantasizing at my Pinterest food boards and making a list of a few things I'd like to make when we finally move into our house!  Don't get me wrong.  I haven't cooked in almost 2 months.  That, my friends, is a record!  I love cooking (when I have the time), and I can't wait to get back to it soon!
