Bronchiolitis--Take 2

It's that time again...Bronchiolitis time!

No, this is not a time we're liking or looking forward to, but for some reason our good friend, Mr. Bronchiolitis, really likes us.  I think it's because B is so friendly and has flirty eyes.  Maybe he thinks we like him visiting, but alas...we do not!

Here's what we've learned on "Take 2":
Tired after a long night

Sick Bennett = Chilled Out Bennett (and a little naked time!)
  1. You are a good parent when you take your child to the doctor as soon as the croup cough sounds worse!
  2. You can never ask too many questions--that's why they have nurses when you call the doctor's office! (I called 3 times in 2 days--WAY less than some moms, but more than I'd rather 'cause I don't want to be "that mom"!)
  3. Double check with the doctor the prescription they send in.  And then triple check.  We got home with an inhaler medicine and a nebulizer medicine, but no equipment to administer it with.  When we went back to CVS, everyone (including us) was confused at which one we were supposed to have since we only needed one--the nebulizer or the inhaler.  Call #1 to nurse.  We made sure to have the pharmacist show us exactly how to use the inhaler/mask combo and now we're pros!
  4. Milk + Mucous = lots of coughing/puking it up.  Pedialyte to the rescue!  The first time B got it we thought it caused his constipation, so we were extra cautious this time, but had no problems (yeah!!!), and he was able to at least have something in his tummy.
  5. About 20 hours of only Pedialyte helped him get better with eating and we were able to slowly introduce milk again.  Less than 24 hours after that, we were back to normal with eating!
  6. The cough is definitely worse at night.  B's woken up every night since getting the inhaler and a few nights were pretty rough--meaning he was FULLY awake and wouldn't go back to sleep without a bottle.  However, a few nights we've gotten through with him waking up coughing, us giving him the inhaler while sleeping (he just has to breathe it in), and then he sleeps until we get him up in the morning.  Lots of waking for us, but not as much for him = happier baby and happier parents!
  7. Take the inhaler out of the mask tube so you don't stretch out that hole.  (Thank you Miss Mary from daycare for teaching us that trick!)
  8. A lot of issues with Mr. Bronchiolitis could be something that leads to asthma later on.  This is not something we wanted to hear, but it was good to know so it helps in the future.  We are already way more on top of things after B's hospitalization for this back in November, and I know we're well on our way to helping him grow up as strong/healthy as he can!
  9. You can still have a happy child the entire time!
