How Do You Deal?

I have been working with incompetent people since August. That's almost 6 months. If a person "apparently" held a certain position in the past, don't you think they would know how to acclimate their knowledge in that position to their current position--which just happens to be in another district? I'm talking about someone who doesn't know how to do their job and in the past has expected me and others to do parts of their job for them. Pay me the money and sure, I'll do it for you. But....you know.....I don't walk around expecting someone who teaches science to make up some test questions for me when they haven't been doing my job. So it seems to me that if you are "qualified" for a certain position, you'd better make darn sure you know how to do it--and if you don't, you'd better ask someone who is in the same position to help you out--not a lowly teacher like me. The fun thing is I still hear the excuse, "I'm new...I'm still learning." Well, our district has a wonderful staff development system that allows you to learn any number of things---get hopping!

I am currently searching for a new job--either in my district, another school district, or in some other job that will provide benefits. If anyone knows of any contacts I could use, I sure would appreciate it. I am a highly qualified teacher. The only thing I didn't do was get my Master's in Administration--which is something I'm seriously considering now because I'm tired of the ^%#& I'm going through at my school.

If anyone knows of a teacher out there--thank them. We are one of the few jobs who will not get to get their spouse's social security (or our own), will literally be "black-balled" if we quit in the middle of a semester, and have to deal with laws so stupidly made by stupid parents that we basically babysit instead of teach any more.

I love doing what I do--don't get me wrong. I just detest working with incompetence. I hate the fact that I don't enjoy my students like I should. Literally, some of them are hilarious and others test my strength, but they're still my babies.

I thought it couldn't get worse. Now I know better.

Oh. My. Goodness... a kindred spirit!!! (And I thought it was just me!) I know EXACTLY what you are going through for I have had a similarly frustrating year. Like you I am "currently searching for a new job--either in Katy, another school district, or in some other job that will provide benefits." I just wish I had a better idea what I could do with my degree outside the educational field because I think it is just about that time.
Call me; we'll talk. Until then, know that I am right there with you, sista'!
